In college any student could check out a Sony XL1 miniDV cam. Probably a couple of hours of footage with the E46 M3 I can't get to. Wonder if the parents still have a miniDV camcorder...
Any other easy ways to get this stuff off?

The easiest way is to get something with a video output that can play them back, and using a capture card on a PC to record the footage.
That launch is insane btw :D

Coscto can do that for you pretty cheap, or check craigslist for a camera, mini DV is nice and easy to transfer because its digital, all you need is a firewire 400 cable and a camera.

You might be able to find a miniDV cam at a local thrift store or pawn shop. I actually happen to have one with video out (firewire) to computer.

Usually, most miniDVs come with some sort of software/cable allowing you to hook up the camera to the computer/VCR/etc...?
And either it's me, or the S54 engine in that M3 sounds off.

I've got premiere and a firewire input, just didn't know if somewhere along the line someone had come out with a cheap and easy miniDV box or something. I'll find a cheap camcorder with a firewire out.
Normal sound for the S54 though. A lot more induction than exhaust noise.

I had a SMG. It wasn't bad once you learned to treat the gas like you were driving a manual. Mechanically identical to the 6MT, except for the 3 hydraulic actuators working the gate (x and y -axis) and clutch.

Yeah, when I first drove one my friend told me to treat the gas like a manual and it'll be much better, honestly I gotta say I enjoyed it

mini DV camcorders should be dirt cheap by now. I work for a camera shop and I was checking the prices on used Canon GL2's yesterday (about 2k when new) and now they're only a few hundred bucks. I'm certain that you could find a cheap basic one just to get these imported onto the harddrive.
